1961 Porsche 356B Super 90
Vehicle Description:
30-Years-Owned 1961 Porsche 356B Super 90 Cabriolet
This 1961 Porsche 356B is a Reutter-bodied Super 90 cabriolet that was completed on November 14, 1961, delivered new to Munich, Germany, and acquired by the current owner around 30 years ago, reportedly from its second owner. A bare-metal repaint was carried out in the mid-2000s, at which time the interior was refreshed and a replacement soft top installed. The car is powered by a numbers-matching 1,600cc flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle and features a single rear decklid grille, a chrome driver’s side mirror, and body-color bumpers with chrome overriders. This 356B Cabriolet has a removable hardtop, a Kardex, a tool kit, manufacturer’s literature, spare parts, photos from the cosmetic refresh, Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.
The car was finished from the factory in Signal Red (6011), and a bare metal repaint was performed in the mid-2000s following the completion of bodywork around the nose and in the floors. Exterior features include a replacement black soft top, a single rear decklid grille, chrome driver’s side mirror, and body-color bumpers with chrome overriders with integrated exhaust outlets. A red-painted removable hardtop will accompany the vehicle, and its condition can be seen in the gallery below.
Silver-painted 15” steel wheels wear chrome hubcaps with Porsche crests and are mounted with 165-width Michelin tires. A full-size spare is found in the front storage area. Stopping power is provided by finned drums at all four corners, and the selling dealer notes the brake master cylinder recently replaced.
The cabin was reupholstered with black leather seat covers and replacement gray square-weave carpets during the refresh in the mid-2000s. Equipment includes a height-adjustable rear-view mirror, black rubber floor mats, and lap belts for front occupants.
A leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a body-color dash housing VDO instrumentation that includes a 6k-rpm tachometer, a 120-mph speedometer, and a combination gauge. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 79k miles, around 5k of which have been added during current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The 1.6-liter Super 90 flat-four is equipped with dual carburetors and was recently serviced along with a valve adjustment and fluid changes. The results of a compression test can be seen in the gallery below.
The engine block stamped on the Kardex.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle. Additional underbody photos are provided in the gallery below.
An album of photos from the refurbishment will accompany the vehicle, along with manufacturer’s literature.
The Kardex lists the factory colors and identification numbers and shows initial delivery to Munich, Germany.
